NEW ORLEANS PARTNERSHIP:
Overview
The New Orleans Partnership (NOP)
is a non profit community economic development organization
established by the Southern University at New Orleans to
implement the housing and commercial development projects
proposed in its HUD/HBCU grant and matching Louisiana Department
of Economic Development Grant. This effort, entitled LIFT
New Orleans, aims to strengthen distressed areas, reduce
poverty and improve living conditions for residents, rehabilitate
blighted housing and promote homeownership. The NOP, whose
board is comprised of business and civic leaders who share
a concern about promoting the revitalization of New Orleans,
will coordinate and facilitate the social welfare, economic
development, and revitalization and relief efforts of the
LIFT New Orleans Initiative. The NOP’s primary
responsibility will be to promote interest and facilitate action
by other members of its local community, including universities,
businesses, government and other charitable organizations.
Successful execution of the goals of the LIFT Initiative will
serve as a catalyst for the revitalization of New Orleans most
disadvantaged communities.
